The L.N. Tolstoy International Peace Prize

Statute of Prize
On June 22, 2022, the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Peace Foundation, the Russian Military Historical Society established the Tolstoy International Peace Prize Foundation
The Prize is named after the world-famous classic of world literature, the great Russian writer and thinker Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910), a widely recognized and acknowledged symbol of Russian culture in general.

Leo Tolstoy was a combat officer who served in the Caucasus and took part in the Crimean War, awarded for the defense of Sevastopol with the Order of St. Anne, 4th degree with the inscription "For Bravery" and medals. This could not but influence his outlook and creativity, the formation of views on the struggle against the evil of war and violence, the desire for peace-loving enlightenment. The name of Leo Tolstoy, the scale of his legacy and personality most fully correspond to the idea and goals of the International Peace Prize, which is supposed to be awarded to persons and organizations that have made a significant contribution to the strengthening of peace and friendship between peoples.
Outstanding achievements in activities aimed at countering the threat of unleashing a third world war and at preventing a nuclear catastrophe
Significant contribution to ensuring universal and equal security based on the rule of international law, ending the arms race, building a multipolar and nonviolent world, strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between peoples
Important achievements in the demilitarization, democratization and humanization of international relations on the basis of generally accepted norms of morality and law, as well as in solving global problems of our time
Active peacemaking and tireless efforts in defense of human rights and freedoms
The Prize is awarded by an international jury formed by the founders of the L.N. Tolstoy International Peace Prize Foundation. The Jury consists of both Russians and foreign citizens who have a broad international recognition and authority.
Applicants for the Prize may be individuals, initiative groups, national and international public foundations, organizations and movements; scientific and research centers, institutes and institutions, educational institutions.

Laureate diploma
The award-winning applicants are awarded the diploma of the laureate of the International Peace Prize named after Lev Tolstoy.
Its design was developed by the Foundation's staff and approved by the Foundation's founders and Board of Trustees. The maroon leather cover of the diploma has a gold-embossed laurel branch and the name of the award, on the centerfold is the name of the laureate, the year of the award, and it also indicates what the award was awarded for.
A personalized gold medal with the image of L.N. Tolstoy
The International Tolstoy Peace Prize, awarded to the Laureate, includes, among other things, a personalized gold medal.
The gold medal is made at the Moscow Mint, gold grade - 585 with 999 gold plating, diameter – 65 mm, weight – 200 grams. On the obverse of the medal, in the center, there is a bas–relief of Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy, with the caption "Lev Tolstoy" under it, and to the left and right of the bas-relief, the inscription "Peace Prize" in Russian and English, respectively. A certificate is attached to the gold medal.
