The Russian Chapel near Vršič is a symbol of friendship between Russia and Slovenia

On July 26, 2025 according to a long-standing tradition, an annual solemn ceremony was held at the Russian Chapel under the Vrsic Pass.
The celebrations were organized by the Slovenia-Russia Friendship Society, the Municipality of Kranjska Gora, and the Russian Embassy in Slovenia.
Among the numerous guests, the event was attended by the Ambassador of Russia to Slovenia T.R. Eivazov, the Mayor of Ljubljana Z. Jankovic, the First President of Slovenia M. Kucan, the former Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs K. Eriavic, the Mayor of the community of Gornja Gora H. Zupan, members of the Slovenian National Assembly, staff members of the Embassy, and the Chairman of the Slovenian National Olympic Committee M.Krizman, activists from Slovenian veteran organizations, representatives of Slovenian businesses, compatriots, and local residents - a total of about 400 people.
The ceremony was also attended by Sergey E. Cheryomin, Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations of Moscow, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize Foundation.
In a solemn atmosphere, T.R. Eyvazov and S.E. Cheryomin laid a wreath at the mass grave of Russian prisoners of war near the Russian chapel. Representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, including Metropolitan Kirill of Zagreb and Ljubljana and Father Milan, a priest from the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Maribor, performed a memorial service.
The performance of Russian songs from the First World War by Russian compatriots (Maria Rozhko, piano, Alexandra Nomer, violin) added a special atmosphere to the event.
The events at the Russian Chapel near Vršič remain a symbol of friendship between the Russian and Slovenian peoples, despite the complex geopolitical situation in Europe.
